Technology and Innovation

While increased investments in science and innovation in developing countries offer promising opportunities for growth and prosperity, the pace and scale of technological change presents challenges. Similarly, many countries still lack the individual and organizational capabilities to benefit from advances in science.

IDRC’s Technology and Innovation program area leverages science and advanced technologies to support knowledge, innovation, and solutions that drive sustainable economic growth and improve people’s lives in the developing world.

Support for research focuses on leveraging digital innovation while addressing governance challenges; strengthening S&T institutions and individual skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM); and improving education systems in the Global South.

The Technology and Innovation program area seeks to:

  • harness digital innovations to create inclusive economic opportunities and advance democracy in the developing world;
  • build the human and organizational capital needed for innovation to support economic growth and development; and
  • accelerate the generation and uptake of evidence and innovation in the education sector.
