Women play larger role in Latin America's commercial urban waste management

Women in Latin America are playing a larger role in the management of solid waste in Latin America, according to research supported by IDRC.

Trabajadoras por la ciudad. Aporte de las mujeres a la gestión ambiental de los residuos sólidos en América Latina (Women workers for the city. Women contribution to solid waste management in Latina America) presents the scope of the research and describes the reality of recyclable waste management in Lima (Peru), Montevideo (Uruguay), Sao Paulo (Brazil), and Cochabamba (Bolivia). The research examines the role women play in marketing urban waste as a commercial enterprise and their important contribution to municipal recyclable waste activities.

This book describes the results of a project supported by IDRC's Climate Change and Water program, Gender Dimension in Solid Waste Management in Urban and Periurban Areas (Latin America and the Caribbean).
