TTI Phase 2 Institutional Support: Centre for the Study of Developing Societies
This funding will enhance the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies' (CSDS) role as a credible public policy institution in India by strengthening its ability to provide high-quality, influential, and policy-relevant research.
About the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies
CSDS is one of India's leading social science research institutes. An autonomous institution, the CSDS is frequently engaged in contemporary issues and undertakes research in a number of areas, including democratic representation and governance, development policies, social equity, and education. CSDS receives its funding from the Think Tank Initiative (TTI).
Partnerships for stronger institutions
TTI is a multi-funder program dedicated to strengthening independent policy research institutions, or think tanks, in developing countries. The program aims to enhance their ability to provide sound research that informs and influences policy.
This second TTI phase (2014?2019) will fund 43 institutions, helping them consolidate their role as credible development actors in their countries, and in some cases, regionally and internationally. For CSDS, this project will help enhance its research quality, organizational performance, and policy engagement.
Building experience and influence
Through this support over the next 4.5 years, CSDS is expected to
-contribute to improving research quality among researchers and think tanks in the region
-build a team of skilled researchers who provide high-quality research and evidence on current national priority areas, including pluralism, democracy, urban transformation, information and social exclusion, and emerging issues
-receive more advice requests from government officials and other stakeholders because of their new policy engagement and outreach strategies
-offer greater social security for staff members
-upgrade facilities to ensure they are more inclusive and energy-efficient
