Southern Voice State of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The Southern Voice on post-MDG International Development Goals (Southern Voice) serves as an open platform that contributes to the global dialogue on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It addresses the existing knowledge asymmetry and participation deficit in the dialogue by disseminating policy analyses by researchers from the countries of the Global South. This project is a flagship research and outreach initiative conceived by the Southern Voice network that will generate and disseminate evidence-based assessments of SDG implementation. It will do so by providing meaningful reporting on global progress and capturing national achievements across different types of countries and sets of priorities in the following areas: education, energy, work and economic growth, environment and peace, justice, and strong institutions.
Beyond generating useful evidence concerning SDG implementation at the national and global levels, this project will help expand ownership of the SDGs in case study countries and further democratize the ongoing global conversation around SDG monitoring and implementation.
This project, implemented by the Bangladesh-based Centre for Policy Dialogue, is the latest undertaking of the Southern Voice network, which consists of 49 think tanks, 48 of which have been recipients of TTI funding. The project is in keeping with the network’s strategy to institutionalize southern think tanks as effective interlocutors between national capitals, regional hubs, and global centres (including New York) with respect to multilateral engagements.
The Think Tank Initiative (TTI) is a multi-funder program dedicated to strengthening independent policy research institutions, or think tanks, in developing countries. The program aims to enhance their ability to provide sound research that informs and influences policy. This second TTI phase (2014‒2019) will fund 43 institutions, helping them consolidate their role as credible development actors in their countries, and in some cases, regionally and internationally.
