Focus Cities : Easing the Environmental Burden in Informal Settlements in Moreno (Argentina)

This is the first of nine research projects to be funded under IDRC's Urban Poverty and Environment (UPE) Focus Cities research program. Researchers from the International Institute of Environment and Development (IIED America Latina) will examine the connection between poverty and environment in the municipality of Moreno, Argentina. They will apply an existing model of stakeholder participation in water supply and sanitation services, and extend it to other sectors identified by the residents and municipality. And, they will provide the municipality with technical support for the creation of a multi-stakeholder sustainable development unit. Through its dissemination program, the project will endeavor to influence those working on urban poverty and environmental improvement in Argentina and in international policy institutions and academic establishments.
