Climate adaptation research must go beyond assessing risks and identifying impacts to focus on finding solutions that are user-centred and action-oriented. Current support for adaptation and resilience research is insufficient, lacking coordination, and not effectively linked to implementation to address the magnitude and urgency of the practical actions needed to build a climate-resilient future.
This project seeks to mobilize a coalition across a range of actors to scale up investments in adaptation and resilience research from both research and action funding agencies. Project activities include stakeholder consultation and engagement through webinars, online meetings, and structured dialogues; development of key concept and strategic vision documents; and mobilization of alliances through the Adaptation Futures conferences. The new alliance is expected to increase capacity at individual and institutional levels to bring research into use, enhance collaboration and learning, and improve coordination and linkages between different research funding initiatives. IDRC will also commission a set of background studies and actively engage in the task force to clarify how the alliance will operate.
