Maggie Gorman Vélez has more than 10 years of progressive professional experience in the international research and development field. She joined IDRC in 2004 as a Research Award Recipient and the following year she was a Professional Development Awardee. Maggie has a broad range of experience acquired in her roles as Policy Analyst, Partnerships Officer, Programs Advisor, and Chief of Staff. Her independent research has focused on corporate social responsibility and mining in developing countries, with a particular concentration on social development programming initiated by the private sector.
Maggie’s background is in gender and international development studies; she has a Master's degree from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and a Bachelor's degree in economics from St. Thomas University in Fredericton.
